Art for Climate Change

Igniting Global Change through the Power of Art

Welcome to the Global Art for Climate Change Initiative, a groundbreaking platform by the Climate Hub Forum, designed to catalyse climate action through the universal language of art. As we prepare to launch this initiative on a global scale at COP29, we are calling on artists, advocates, governments, philanthropists, corporations, and citizens worldwide to join us in this monumental effort. This initiative amplifies the voices and challenges of the Global South, turning the spotlight on regions facing the most severe impacts of climate change yet contributing the least to its causes.

Introduction to the Initiative

Launched in Karachi, Pakistan, at the historic Frere Hall, this initiative debuted with senior artists’ climate-focused works, setting the stage for a global platform where art meets climate diplomacy, advocacy, and policy dialogue. Our goal: make COP29 the catalyst for a cultural movement that unites the world in climate action.

Our Vision

The Global Art for Climate Change Initiative seeks to ignite a collective shift in climate consciousness, fostering collaboration across nations. By partnering with governments, international organizations, and artists worldwide, CHF envisions art as a powerful diplomatic tool to drive systemic changes toward a regenerative, circular economy. This initiative aligns with the Paris Agreement, the UN SDGs, and the COP framework to elevate the voice of the Global South in international climate dialogues.

Why Art for Climate?

Art is more than just a form of expression; it’s a powerful agent for advocacy. Through painting, sculpture, installations, photography, digital art, and performances, we can convey the human stories behind the science, bridging the gap between abstract climate data and the lived realities of communities across the globe. Art resonates, moves, and mobilizes people to act, making it a potent tool for climate diplomacy and social justice.

Project Goals and Objectives

By showcasing artworks from artists in climate-vulnerable regions, the initiative aims to elevate their stories, highlighting the urgent need for equitable solutions in climate policy.
  2. Building a Global Movement for a Just Transition:
Through partnerships with artists, governments, NGOs, and local communities, we aim to inspire and empower collective action to achieve a fair transition to sustainable, resilient economies.
  3. Influencing Global Policy:
In collaboration with climate advocates, artists, and policymakers, we will develop policy recommendations rooted in the experiences of the Global South. These will focus on adaptation, resilience, loss and damage funding, and sustainability.
  4. Fostering Peace and Solidarity through Art Diplomacy:
Art spaces will serve as a medium for cultural exchange, enabling global dialogues that inspire empathy, mutual respect, and joint action on climate issues.
  5. Strengthening Art as Climate Diplomacy:
Art will be used as a diplomatic tool to connect stakeholders across borders, fostering cultural understanding and united efforts for climate action.
  6. Advancing Sustainable Development through Art:

  7. Empowering Young Artistic Talent:
Training programs, mentorship, and residencies will cultivate a generation of climate-conscious artists equipped to transform local climate narratives into powerful global messages.
  8. Mobilizing Green Finance for Climate Art Initiatives:
Dedicated funding will be mobilized for climate adaptation projects, particularly in the Global South, to support sustainable infrastructure and community-led climate action.
  9. Supporting Loss and Damage Funding:
Through fundraising and advocacy, we will advocate for an accessible and well-funded Loss and Damage mechanism to help vulnerable communities recover from climate impacts.
  10. Advocating for Circular Economy Models:
Promoting circular economy practices, the initiative will encourage sustainable production and consumption patterns to reduce waste and protect ecosystems.
Project Components and Funding Opportunities

Global Call for Artists

This initiative invites artists, especially from the Global South, to contribute climate-focused works that represent resilience, adaptation, and the impacts of climate change. Selected pieces will be exhibited at COP29 and featured in international exhibitions.

Virtual Art Residency Program
A global residency offering mentorship from seasoned artists and climate experts will provide artists with the tools to address climate issues creatively and sustainably. We’re seeking funding to make this opportunity accessible, covering program logistics, mentorship fees, and artist support.

Exhibitions and Auctions
Both physical and virtual exhibitions will be organized to display and auction artworks, with proceeds directly funding climate mitigation projects in the Global South. This includes reforestation, zero-waste initiatives, and sustainable urban development. Donors and art collectors are invited to purchase art, knowing that their support will fund climate action directly.

Partnerships with Art Galleries and Climate Organizations
We’re forming partnerships with international art galleries, climate advocacy groups, and cultural foundations to provide visibility, funding, and additional platforms for the initiative. This collaboration requires support to establish global exhibits, virtual showcases, and artist residencies, creating a sustained platform for climate-focused art.

Public Engagement and Community Outreach
Following COP29, a series of exhibitions, dialogues, and workshops will tour globally, engaging climate-affected communities, youth, and local governments. We seek funds to ensure impactful community engagement, create public art installations, and develop localized campaigns for greater climate awareness and action.

Funding Opportunities and Your Impact

We invite philanthropists, corporations, art collectors, climate advocates, and government entities to join us as funding partners. Together, we can amplify the Global South’s voice, drive systemic change, and support sustainable futures.

  1. Individual Donors and Philanthropists:
By sponsoring specific project components such as the Virtual Art Residency Program, you can directly impact climate awareness and action on a personal level. Supporters will be acknowledged in all project communications, with opportunities to participate in select events.
  2. Corporate Sponsorships:
Corporations can become founding sponsors, supporting exhibitions, auctions, and residencies, and be featured prominently in media and communications as leaders in climate advocacy and corporate responsibility.
  3. Climate and Cultural Foundations:
We invite foundations to join as project partners, providing financial backing for international exhibitions, policy recommendations, and artist training programs. Foundation support will help us expand the reach and influence of this initiative, making climate advocacy more inclusive and impactful.
  4. Art Collectors and Investors:
By purchasing art from the initiative’s exhibitions, collectors can fund on-the-ground climate projects. Investment in climate-themed art aligns with both philanthropy and sustainability, positioning collectors as champions of climate and cultural preservation.

5. Governmental and Multilateral Organizations:
Governments and intergovernmental bodies can endorse and fund the initiative to support community outreach, policy dialogues, and climate advocacy, ensuring the Global South’s needs are heard and addressed on international platforms.

Crowdfunding Campaign for the Global Art for Climate Change Initiative (GACCI)

A Call for Climate Action Through Art

Welcome to the Global Art for Climate Change Initiative (GACCI), a transformative global movement that merges art, climate advocacy, and policy influence to address the most pressing crisis of our time. As we prepare for COP29 this November, we’re excited to launch GACCI, both virtually and physically, calling on a global audience to witness and support art’s unique power in advocating for climate action. Through art, we aim to foster cross-cultural collaboration, elevate the voices of the Global South, and spark meaningful policy shifts.

The Vision: Art as a Universal Language for Climate Action

In our increasingly divided world, art has the power to unite. Just as climate change affects every region on earth, art transcends cultural, linguistic, and political barriers, connecting us on a deeply human level. The GACCI initiative harnesses this universal language to bridge affected communities with global decision-makers, amplifying the urgent call for climate justice and a sustainable future. At COP29, we will spotlight art from climate-vulnerable regions, such as African States, South American countries and South Asia, showcasing both the vulnerabilities and resilient spirit of these communities. Each piece tells a story of survival, adaptability, and hope, inviting the world to join hands in this shared mission.

Your Impact: Be Part of the Global Art for Climate Change Movement

Your support will bring life to GACCI’s vision, allowing artists to highlight the environmental challenges faced by their communities. Every contribution empowers these artists, providing them with a platform at COP29 to influence policy, inspire action, and mobilize global attention towards a sustainable future. Together, we are creating a legacy through exhibitions, artist residencies, educational workshops, and impactful policy dialogues. Each dollar you contribute plays a role in building this global movement, making climate art a powerful agent for change.

How Your Contribution Will Be Used – First Phase of the Project 2024-2025

Post-Launch at COP29 (November 2024)

This pivotal moment will showcase GACCI’s mission, inviting leaders, climate advocates, and communities worldwide to experience climate narratives firsthand. To make this possible, we need $500,000 for exhibition spaces, artist travel, virtual streaming, and foundational media outreach. This event will set the stage for the initiative, drawing global attention and engagement.

Art Residencies in Asia (2024-2025) First Phase

We are establishing art residencies in Countries in Global South; a region acutely affected by climate impacts. These residencies offer artists the resources to create compelling climate-focused works that will later be exhibited and sold at COP30. Each residency requires $250,000 to cover studio space, artist stipends, materials, and community workshops. Supporting these residencies means supporting the voice of the most climate-impacted communities.

Global Collaborations and Future Exhibitions (Towards COP30)

Building momentum toward COP30, GACCI will invite artists globally to join our exhibitions, culminating in a grand showcase at COP 30 in2025. To extend our reach and impact, we need $1 million for exhibitions across multiple regions, amplifying our climate message worldwide.

Educational Programs and Policy Dialogues

Art’s influence extends beyond inspiration; when paired with policy, it becomes a force for action. Our educational workshops and policy dialogues will create bridges between art and climate policy, with $150,000 needed to establish and sustain these programs in collaboration with local governments and NGOs.

Countdown to COP29: Amplifying the Global South’s Voice through Art and Climate Action 🎨

As the world gears up for COP29, it is crucial now, more than ever, to elevate the voices of those most affected by the climate crisis—the Global South. This pivotal conference is where the future of planetary health will be debated, decisions made, and funds directed. Yet, the regions hardest hit by climate change—countries like Pakistan and many others across the Global South—continue to face disproportionate challenges, while contributing the least to the global carbon footprint.

Why COP29 Matters:

COP29 represents a critical juncture for the world to accelerate action on climate finance, loss, and damage funds, and deliver justice to vulnerable nations. It is not just a policy platform but a call to humanity, where solutions must reflect the urgency to protect our planet and its people. The stakes could not be higher. Failure to act decisively means deeper inequalities and irreversible damage to our ecosystems.

Urgency of the Moment:

With only weeks to go, the world needs creative, bold, and collective action. The Global South, with its vast potential and resilience, must take centre stage in climate negotiations, and innovative approaches are key to shifting mindsets and mobilizing resources.

That’s where Art comes in.

🎨 Introducing: Art for Climate Change 🎨 An initiative by Climate Hub Forum, this project fuses creativity with climate advocacy. Art has a unique power—it transcends borders, speaks to the heart, and awakens urgency like no other medium. Through this initiative, we aim to raise awareness, mobilize resources, and drive action for climate solutions that directly benefit the Global South.

We are proud to announce that this initiative was launched at Frere Hall, Karachi—a historical heritage site, now symbolizing the resilience needed in the face of climate disasters. The event featured:

  • Art Exhibits by local artists, visualizing the devastating impacts of climate change on Pakistan and the Global South.
  • Talks from Consul Generals, blending art, diplomacy, and climate action.
  • Special Screening of Habib Paracha’s UN-featured documentary, shown at COP28, bringing attention to the realities of climate threats.

  • Tap into the power of green finance to protect vulnerable nations.
  • Highlight the crucial role of women leaders from the Global South, with Uganda soon joining the effort.
